How Often Do You Bring A Camera With You?

It seems to be a law of the universe that whenever you don’t have a camera with you, something interesting is almost bound to happen that will make you wish you hadn’t left it at home.

"Having my Canon 5D and 16-35mm f/2.8 L lens with me while going out for coffee in downtown Atlanta meant that I was able to capture this shot of skyscrapers towering overhead while walking down the street." — Nick Zantop

Some photographers carry a camera with them at all times, while others only bring the camera along on special occasions. Some only pack the camera if they’re specifically planning on taking photos that day.

Carrying a digital camera with you everywhere you go means that you’ve got a bit of extra weight to carry around, and it can mean getting roped into taking pictures for your friends and family when they see your camera and designate you as the photographer for the day. On the plus side though, always having a camera handy can mean infinite chances to practice your photography on all types of subject matter.

Are you a photographer who carries your main camera with you everywhere you go? Do you leave the DSLR at home and bring a compact camera with you instead? Do you have a once-in-a-lifetime photo that you wouldn’t have gotten without your camera with you? Tell us about your daily photography habits in the comments below!

Unless I am going to the grocery store, I carry my camera everywhere! There are MANY shots that I am so glad I had my camera with me. I learned the hard way to take my camera almost always. If the weather isn’t crappy, I will usually take a drive to some if my favorite spots to shoot. Photography is therapy and very zen-like for me.
